Choosing a hosting provider is where you should never go wrong. When your website is hosted by a wrong hosting provider with poor services, your website, conversions and sales will suffer.

In this article, I am giving you an honest review of SiteGround, reasons why you should choose it, or dump it.

To begin with,

What is Siteground?

SiteGround is a hosting company registered in the USA, UK, Bulgaria, and Spain. It was founded in 2004 and today it has over 400 employees and hots more than 500,000 domains. The SiteGround headquarters are in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The company is popular and ranked among the highest-rated hosting providers in the WordPress and website community. SiteGround is loved by many WordPress hosted websites since it features built-in Wp caching, free CDN, incredible speeds, and uptime.

The pros of using SiteGround.

1.  Above-average load speed. (Around 673ms).

Many visitors will bounce off if the site takes longer to load. Whereas some factors like big sized images, too many plugins, and others may slow down a site, your hosting provider has a great impact on your website loading speed too. With SiteGround, its loading speed is incredibly good with under a second of load time.

2. About 99.99% uptime.

SiteGround has a good performance in terms of server uptime that averages to 99.99%.

Wondering what uptime is? Uptime is the amount of time the server hosting your website is active and running. A hosting company with a good uptime rate is a great indicator that their servers work well and you will be less likely to miss visitors because the server is down.

3. Free site migration.

While many web hosting companies charge for site migration to their servers, SiteGround offers a free site migration.

”DIY migrations ” aren’t always reliable but SiteGround created a free WordPress migration plugin that can be used to easily migrate your whole website. You just generate a token from your SiteGround hosting account and the plugin will do the transfer plus a notification when the transfer is done.

If you want professional help on migration, SiteGround will offer the free service at higher tier plans such as GrowBig and GoGeek. When you exceed the limit, that’s when you are charged a fee of $30.

4. 30 day Money back guarantee.

Sometimes you make an error in billing, not satisfied with the services and you want your money back.

SiteGround offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on all shared hosting plans and a 15-day refund on their cloud, VPS, and dedicated hosting plans.

It however applies to brand new customers and not on renewal plans.

5. Free SSL Certificate and Content Delivery Network (CDN). [ps2id id=’cdn-ssl’ target=”/]

Websites that don’t have an SSL certificate have a negative SEO and a warning of insecurity especially to users using chrome.

The good news with SiteGround is that it offers free SSL certificates along with their hosting plans. SSL protects the information sent back and forth on the user’s device and website, for example, IP addresses, Credit card numbers, and personal information. I guess you would like the protection and security for your users and website.

SiteGround also comes with free Cloudflare CDN (Content Delivery Network). CDN caches the site’s static information such as images over a network of 100+ servers worldwide. When a user is using your website the content is delivered to the user from the closest server thus increasing website speed and load time.

6. Free emails. [ps2id id=’free-email’ target=”/]

While many hosting companies may sell you business emails, SiteGround offers free professional emails.  You will be able to create as many accounts as you want and they have a friendly webmail interference, autoresponders, and a lot more.

7. Excellent customer support Experience.

Siteground has a good customer support service with a 24/7 live chat.  Those who have used SiteGround say they haven’t had major issues in the support.

The customer support always has quick answers and goes along with you until the problem is solved.

Sometimes you can’t wait and you need to talk to support through phone support.

SiteGround also has a smart AI chatbot that can solve specific issues in a very fast way eliminating the wait time from an operator.

8. Automated WordPress website backups.[ps2id id=’backups’ target=”/]

Siteground offers daily backups and keeps over 30 copies of your account. Just in case things go bad and your site breaks, you mess up somewhere, or lose data, a full restore of your site is quite easy.

Backups and restores are free on all their shared hosting plans.

That’s value for money if you have your website backed up for free.

9. They have stayed long in the industry.

Siteground has been offering website services since 2004. Does that mean something to you? For me, it does because I know the company has been there and will not migrate in one day.

The years spent in the industry also gives them the experience to handle tasks and offer great services. The team behind SieGround is an army of people with expertise in the industry. This increases my confidence that my website is handled by a hosting company with some kinda team of experts.

The cons of using SiteGround.

1.  Higher renewal prices.

Almost every hosting company uses the trick of offering cheaper startup prices but increases them greatly on renewal and SiteGround isn’t an exception.

For example, a plan that starts at $6.99  per month is renewed at $14.99 which is double and an increment of over 100%. A plan that you get at $24.99 per month for the start increases to $39.99 per month when being renewed and they remain constant there then.

The best solution to this is to get as many months as the plans allow on your first purchase (36 months) so that you can take advantage of the low prices.

2. Limited and so capped starter plan.

On their starting or call it the cheapest price, SiteGround offers one website, only 10 GB of webspace, and handles about 10,000 monthly visitors. Although it offers unlimited traffic or unmetered bandwidth, if the site starts getting huge amounts of traffic, the site’s performance will suffer.

This means that their starting planning will only favor you if you have low traffic and with an increase in traffic you will have to get an upgrade for more resources.

3. Doesn’t offer a free domain name.

Many hosting companies offer free domain names to their new customers for the first year. Siteground doesn’t do it neither does it care.

If you don’t have a domain name while purchasing their plans, you will have to purchase one starting at a price of $15.95 per year if you choose them to be your domain name provider.

SiteGround hosting plans and features.

Siteground offers different hosting plans that you need to choose from to meet your needs. Even when you are a starter, there is a hosting plan that will meet your needs and an option to upgrade when your site grows.

Here are the hosting plans and their features.

1.  Shared hosting:

shared hosting

It is the most recommended hosting plan for new websites that receive low traffic. With this type of hosting you will be sharing resources with other websites hosted on that server. This hosting plan is also suitable for websites that get or will get low traffic throughout.

StartUp: At $6.99 per month, you will have 1 website, 10 GB of Webspace, unmetered traffic, and unlimited databases. On this plan, a free SSL, daily backup, free CDN and 30-days money-back comes along too.

More features such as 24/7 client support and unlimited emails are included too.

This can be the best option when starting up and websites with low traffic.

GrowBig: at $9.99 per month this is an intermediate plan of the shared hosting plans by SiteGround. With this plan you will get unlimited websites, 20 GB of Webspace, unmetered traffic, Free SSL, daily backups, free emails, managed WordPress, and unlimited databases.

More features such as on-demand backup copies, speed-boosting caching, and the option to add collaborators are offered when you purchase this plan and not the StartUp plan.

This plan best suits you when you are starting to get huge loads of traffic.

GoGeek: at a price of $14.99 per month, this is the big boy in the shared hosting plans. You will have unlimited websites, 40 Gb of Web pace, unmetered traffic, free emails, free CDN, unlimited databases, and over 100, 000 visits monthly.

The best plan for a website that gets huge daily traffic.

2. WordPress hosting:

The prices in the WordPress hosting plan don’t change from those of their shared hosting plans.

StartUp: at $6.99 per month, you will have access to one website, 10 GB of Webspace, unmetered traffic, daily backups, free SSL, and free emails.

Since it’s a WordPress plan, it has free WP installation, free WP migrator, and WordPress auto-updates.

GrowBig: at $9.99 per month, you will have access to unlimited websites, over 25,000 visitors, unmetered traffic, 20 GB Webspace, and all WordPress features the startUp plan offers.

You will also have additional on-demand backup copies, speed-boosting, staging(a feature that allows you a mirror copy of your website to test designs, features, or code), and an option to add collaborators.

GoGeek: at a price of $14.99 per month you will have access to the highest tier of resources in this type of hosting plan. Unlimited websites and 40 GB of web space and all the features in the lower tier plans of WordPress hosting plan. You will also have Ultra PHP, priority support, and the highest tier of resources.

This plan best suits you if you have a huge activity taking place on your website.

3. Cloud hosting:

cloud hosting

this is a hosting plan that uses multiple different servers to balance, load, and maximize the uptime of a website.

This is a plan that will handle your growing traffic if it has grown the shared hosting plan.

Siteground’s cloud hosting starts at $80 per month.

4. Enterprise hosting:

enterprise hostingThis is a plan for large businesses with high amounts of traffic and high server requirements.

To get this type of hosting, you must contact the SiteGround team to create a custom plan that suits your needs.

5. WooCommerce hosting:

woocommerce hosting

SiteGround also has a WooCommerce hosting plan meant for online stores or websites that carry out large transactions or trade. This plan is optimized to meet WooCommerce requirements.

The hosting plans don’t differ much from these of Webhosting and WordPress hosting combined. This makes the hosting able to handle WooCommerce with ease.

Does SiteGround have additional or hidden prices?

Additional services will have additional prices that you pay each year. These are optional and can be checked or left out when purchasing your hosting plan.

Domain registration: at $15.95 per year you can register your domain name with SiteGround. When you have your own domain name you don’t need this service.

Domain privacy: at $12.0 per year this feature hides your personal details from third parties who may want to access your full Whois information.

SG Site scanner: at $19.80 per year you get a monitoring service that checks your website daily and immediately notifies you if the website has been hacked or injected with malicious code that might harm your website.

What is the SiteGround money-back guarantee?

For whatever reason, you may want to withdraw your services from the use of SiteGround you will have to do it within 30  days for shared hosting plans after purchase. On the cloud hosting plans, the money-back guarantee works within 14 days.

The refund also applies to new customers and not renewal packages. In case your old subscription has expired and it automatically renews, the money-back guarantee will not work.

Additionally, the money-back guarantee applies only to hosting fees and not other additional fees like domain registration fees.

Additional services like paid support or third-party services are also not covered by the money-back guarantee.

Read the full refund policy from SiteGround here.

Do we recommend SiteGround?

Yes, Site Ground has very good hosting services and prices.  Their uptime through the years is also a guarantee of your site being online most of the time and you won’t lose visitors or money.

The site speed is amazing thanks to their servers spread out throughout 3 continents and the free Cloudflare CDN account that comes along with their hosting plans.

The free SSL and daily backups on all plans make SiteGround worth hosting a website on.

Since the prices increase at renewals, you should take advantage of the lower prices at the start and purchase the highest time possible which is 36 months. Seeing that their domain registration is high, you should purchase a domain somewhere else where it is cheaper.
